General Job Description for a Director

​

  • Commit to the vision, mission, values and work of The Centre for Mindfulness in Muskoka (herein the organization).

  • Act honestly, in good faith and in the best interest of the organization.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining positive, cooperative and respectful relations among or with the Board, committees, management, staff and community.

  • Exercise knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance including, but not limited to, policy, finance, programs, human resources, fundraising and community relations.

  • Support of the organization and related events.

  • Source and participate in fundraising activities.

  • Contribute to defining the organization’s strategic directions and approve its strategic plan.

  • Determine and monitor the organization’s programs and services.

  • Ensure needed resources for the organization, including adequate funding.

  • Approve, monitor and follow all Board policies.

  • Review the bylaws, and recommend bylaw changes to the membership.

  • Abide by the bylaws and the various policies and procedures of the organization. 

  • Approve and monitor the organization’s budget and finances.

  • Elect the Board executive. 

  • Mentor new Board members.

  • Review Board and self-reflect on own performance periodically.

  • Attend, be prepared for and participate in Board, committee and related meetings.

  • Participate in discussions and decision-making of the Board. 

  • Keep the Board informed of membership, committee and community concerns and issues.  

  • Represent the organization when required or requested. 

  • Participation on and/or chairing at least one committee, including attendance at meetings.

  • Declare any conflicts of interest as and when they may arise.

  • With regard to a conflict of interest re: teaching and/or facilitating at CMM, we do not consider it a conflict of interest for a teacher to sit on the Board as well as teach or facilitate, and being on the Board wouldn’t preclude such teaching or facilitating. However, it would not be a given that being a Board member would ensure being able to teach or facilitate, as when such time comes there would be a vetting process for all teachers, facilitators and programs.
